For sale: the new tire from Van der Poel: this is the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R with PAAS technology
Pirelli takes a further step in the evolution of road tires with the launch of the new P ZERO Race TLR SL-R, a model that places aerodynamics at the center of performance without compromising on other key factors such as rolling resistance or grip. The Italian brand aims with this development to approach maximum real speed in varied usage conditions, from competition to demanding outings.
P ZERO Race TLR SL-R: the fastest and most aerodynamic tire from Pirelli
The new tire is born with a clear focus on overall performance. It is not just about rolling faster in a straight line, but about improving the efficiency of the wheel-tire set in real situations, where crosswinds and interaction with the rim play a decisive role. In this context, one of its main innovations appears, the PAAS system, a proprietary technology that modifies the shape of the tire to optimize airflow around the wheel.

This solution works directly on the point of maximum width of the tire and its geometry once mounted and inflated. The goal is to delay the separation of airflow and better utilize the so-called sail effect, a phenomenon that can generate small favorable forces for forward movement when the wind hits from the side. According to data provided by the brand, this improvement can translate into significant aerodynamic savings in specific conditions, positioning this model as one of the most advanced in this area within the road catalog.

To this aerodynamic base, specific work on the tread surface is added. Pirelli introduces a microtexture designed to favor airflow without compromising contact with the asphalt, something particularly relevant at high speeds. This approach seeks to balance two factors that usually compete with each other: aerodynamic efficiency and grip.

The dynamic behavior has also been thoroughly reviewed. The new P ZERO Race TLR SL-R incorporates the LiteCORE casing, a tubeless-ready structure that reduces rolling resistance compared to the brand's previous advanced models. This improvement is not limited to efficiency; it also influences the tire's response, which is more reactive in accelerations and changes of pace while maintaining stability in fast corners.
As for the compound, the SmartEVO² is maintained, a mixture already proven in competition that has been present in top-level victories. Its behavior aims to offer a balance between speed and control, with consistent performance both in dry and wet conditions, expanding the tire's range of use beyond ideal conditions.

The product development has involved direct input from WorldTour teams and bicycle manufacturers, allowing the behavior to be adjusted to the current demands of professional cycling. In fact, this model had already appeared in competition in prototype phase before its official launch.

Designed for modern wide-channel rims, the new SL-R adapts to common internal widths in current cycling and is compatible with hookless systems within the recommended pressure limits. Its production takes place in Italy and uses certified natural rubber, adding a sustainability component to the overall product.
The P ZERO Race TLR SL-R is already available in specialized stores in 28 and 30 millimeter sizes, with a recommended price starting at 99.90 euros. The range will expand after the summer with the arrival of a 32 millimeter version.
