Focus VAM2 SL, the latest lightweight ebike from the brand

The Focus VAM2 SL arrives on the market as the brand's new lightweight electric. It is a trail model with 130 mm of suspension, Fazua Ride 60 motor and 430 Wh battery. The range consists of four assemblies, the weight is 16.25 kg in the most exclusive version and the price starts at 5,799 euros.

Focus VAM2 SL: a featherweight electric trail that looks like an MTB

Electric bikes continue to enjoy enviable health and brands, aware of this, are committed to expanding the offer. Focus has fattened its catalog in recent times and if a year and a half ago it launched the Jam2 SL as the first lightweight electric, it now returns to the charge with another novelty: a new model baptized as VAM2 SL. 

Focus has started with the idea of designing an electric that looked and felt like a conventional bike. The reduced weight of the VAM2 SL -only 16.25 kg in the premium assembly- helps to make it a model, in the words of the manufacturer itself, agile, fun and direct.

The carbon frame has been worked to contain the weight -the 2,172 grams in the top of the range are a record for the brand-. Focus has paid special attention to the rear triangle and the suspension layout, which has finally opted for a flexible pivot design that allows reducing the material used.

The electric system relies on the Fazua Ride 60 motor; with three driving modes -plus the extra power- and reduced dimensions, it has 60 Nm and delivers a maximum power of 450 W. In addition, the motor unit is powered by a 430 Wh battery, to which an extender can be added to increase storage capacity by another 210 Wh.

The VAM2 SL also marks the debut of the MTB One Piece SL Cockpit -standard only in two of the four assemblies of the range-, a combination of handlebar and stem entirely made of carbon. The internal wiring enters through the stem which, together with a diagonal tube that hides the battery well, achieves a great aesthetic finish.

The suspension has a travel of 130 mm, although the VAM2 SL allows to accommodate forks of 140 mm -with a maximum length of 554 mm-. This change affects the bike's geometry, as it relaxes the steering angle -from 65.5° and 66.5°- by 0.5°. On the other hand, the seat angle is 75.5° and the chainstays measure 440 mm, while the stack is 602 mm and the reach is 450 mm.

On the other hand, the VAM2 SL has a maximum weight -bike, cyclist and equipment- of 135 kg.
