Fizik presents a completely redesigned Ergolace 2, now better prepared for off-road adventures
The gravel and bikepacking trend continues to transform the design of cycling equipment, and Fizik has just presented one of its most interesting offerings for those who see cycling as exploration and long hours on the bike. The new Ergolace 2 arrives as an evolution of one of the most versatile off-road shoes from the Italian brand, now with a lighter construction, a redesigned last, and clear inspiration from outdoor and trail running footwear.

Fizik renews its most adventurous shoe with the new Ergolace 2: more comfortable, lighter, and ready for any terrain
The original Ergolace had been a reference for gravel cyclists, recreational XC riders, and multi-day adventures for years, thanks to an unusual combination of comfort, durability, and functionality. In this second generation, Fizik has aimed to reinforce that philosophy in a market where extremely rigid shoes focused solely on pure performance are becoming more common.
The most important change is in the new last. Fizik has completely redesigned the forefoot area to offer more space and allow the foot to expand naturally during long rides or demanding terrains. This greater width aims to reduce pressure points and improve comfort both while pedaling and walking in technical sections or hike-a-bike situations. The brand also assures that lateral support remains sufficient to maintain pedaling efficiency and control on descents.

The upper construction also changes completely from the previous generation. The Ergolace 2 uses an ultra-light GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane that has been common in running or hiking shoes but is practically unprecedented in cycling. On that base, Fizik adds laminated PU reinforcements in the areas most exposed to wear to improve durability without increasing weight.
Another striking element is the disappearance of the traditional tongue. Instead, a sock-like structure made of perforated Airprene wraps the foot completely. The goal is to better distribute pressure, reduce unnecessary layers, and achieve a more uniform and breathable fit. This is a solution that the brand had recently used in the new Ferox 2 competition shoes.

Fizik also maintains the characteristic Ergolace system, with asymmetric closure using quick laces. The Speedlace system allows for on-the-fly tension adjustments with a lightweight cord and a quick lock inspired directly by trail running. In addition to facilitating quick adjustments, it also provides a much more outdoor-oriented aesthetic than traditional cycling.

There are also significant updates in the sole. Fizik has developed two distinct platforms depending on the chosen version. The automatic versions use Vibram Megagrip compound, while the flat versions use Vibram XS Ride. Both share a zonal design where the central area optimizes contact with the pedal and power transfer, while the heel and toe incorporate more aggressive lugs to improve grip when walking on mud, rock, or loose terrain.
The automatic version also incorporates a new nylon plate with a stiffness index of 5 out of 10, seeking a balance between pedaling efficiency and the ability to walk comfortably. In the flat versions, the stiffness drops to 2 out of 10 to prioritize comfort and feel on the pedal.

With this new generation, Fizik aims to cover practically any use off the asphalt. The range includes versions for automatic pedals, flat versions, and waterproof GTX variants. All while maintaining the same philosophy of a lightweight, comfortable shoe ready for long routes, technical gravel, trail riding, or bikepacking trips.
