Evie Richards updates her status after the accident that left Nové Město in silence
The Nové Město World Cup left one of the most concerning images of the weekend with the harsh fall of Evie Richards. The British rider was making one of the best comebacks of her career when she suffered a severe accident that left her immobile off the track and required a long medical intervention during the race.
Evie Richards reassures after her harsh fall in Nové Město: “It scared me”
The Trek-Unbroken XC rider had spent much of the race rolling between seventh and eighth place, but in the final laps, she began to gain ground at high speed. With two laps to go, she launched an attack that took her to podium positions and even led the chase on Laura Stigger, who was riding solo towards victory.

It was on the sixth lap of the eight scheduled when Richards suffered a violent fall in one of the fast sections of the Czech course. At first, it seemed like just another accident in an extremely demanding race, but it quickly became clear that the situation was serious. The British rider remained immobile next to the track while medical services attended to her, and in fact, assistance was still working with her when the race had already finished.

For hours, there was no official information from either the team or her surroundings, which increased the concern even more. Finally, it was Richards herself who reappeared through her Instagram account with a brief message confirming that she did not suffer any serious cervical injuries, although she did have a significant blow to the head.
“I usually get up quickly, but that fall scared me. The X-rays showed that I have nothing broken in my neck. I hit my head hard, so I will need some time to recover. Thanks to the doctors, the ambulance, and all the supportive messages,” wrote the British rider.
Now it remains to be seen if the two weeks leading up to the next World Cup event will be enough for Richards to return to competition or if she will need a longer recovery period after the severe impact suffered in Nové Město.
