Evie Richards suffered a concussion in Nove Mesto, and her recovery is now the priority
Evie Richards has put an end to the doubts about the extent of the fall she suffered during the World Cup in Nové Město. The British rider has confirmed that the strong impact that left her immobile next to the circuit caused her a concussion and that she has already started the corresponding recovery protocol.
Evie Richards suffers a concussion and her recovery becomes the priority
“Small update from Nové Město. My head took a strong impact in the fall and, unfortunately, it caused me a concussion. I am following the protocol and giving my body the necessary time to recover. I have been very lucky to receive so many supportive messages and I just want to thank everyone who wrote to me,” Richards explained through her social media.

The Trek-Unbroken XC rider starred in one of the most concerning images of the World Cup in the Czech Republic. After a spectacular comeback that had led her to fight for podium positions, she suffered a hard fall in one of the fast sections of the circuit during the sixth of the eight planned laps. The British rider remained immobile for several minutes while being attended to by medical services, generating great concern among fans and within the paddock.
Hours after the accident, Richards herself reassured her followers by confirming that medical tests ruled out serious injuries to her neck. However, she already indicated that she had suffered a significant blow to the head and would need time to recover. It has now been officially confirmed that this impact resulted in a concussion.
The news also raises doubts about her immediate competitive calendar. According to the UCI medical protocol for concussions, an adult rider cannot be considered fit to return to competition before completing a minimum recovery period and satisfactorily passing all phases of the return process. Beyond the established minimum deadlines, the evolution of each athlete is different, and the return always depends on the complete disappearance of symptoms.
With the next round of the World Cup scheduled from June 11 to 14 in Saalfelden-Leogang Salzburgerland, it seems difficult for Richards to arrive in optimal condition after a fall of this magnitude and a confirmed concussion just two weeks prior. At this moment, the priority for both the rider and her team is a complete and risk-free recovery.
There is also still no certainty about her presence at the next event on the calendar, scheduled from June 19 to 21 in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). Although the time margin is greater, concussions require especially careful management, and any predictions about her return are premature.
For now, all attention is focused on Richards' recovery. One of the major protagonists of the world XCO will have to set aside immediate sporting goals to concentrate on a recovery that, in cases like this, must always take precedence over any competition schedule.
