Evenepoel could go for the hour record at Red Bull: ' He will try for sure!'
As the road cycling preseason continues, comments and rumors keep generating interest. The latest of these is the hypothesis that Remco Evenepoel might attempt to break the hour record, a possibility directly fueled by the aerodynamic manager of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Dan Bigham, who was responsible for the current record of Filippo Ganna.

Dan Bigham is clear, Remco Evenepoel is capable of breaking Filippo Ganna's hour record
Dan Bigham, the new aerodynamic manager of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe after his time at INEOS Grenadiers, is making headlines. He is one of the most relevant technicians in terms of aerodynamic evolution and, a few days ago, he tested a new technique to visualize airflow over the bike and cyclist in real-time.

Bigham did not hold back when asked about the possibilities of Remco Evenepoel if the Belgian were to attempt to break the 56.792 km current hour record held by Filippo Ganna. The Brit is completely clear that, sooner or later, Remco Evenepoel will try to break that record and emphatically states, “Of course he can break it!”.
Dan Bigham knows a thing or two about this record, both as an aerodynamic specialist and as a top-level track cyclist. In fact, in 2022, he himself held the hour record, surpassing the then-current mark of 55.548 km held by Victor Campenaerts. Bigham's record, while he was with INEOS Grenadiers, was short-lived, as his attempt was merely a preparation for Filippo Ganna's record, which left the stratospheric mark that today shines in the annals.

The reasons Dan Bigham gives for asserting that Ganna's record is breakable by Evenepoel are based on the technological advancements and aerodynamic improvements that have occurred in the past three years, although it is not an easy task. “The hour record is not just about aerodynamics; it has to do with physiology and the cyclist's performance. It is a combination of all these elements and the ability to bring them together on the day and at the place you choose. Execute your plan to the letter and show the world if you have prepared well enough,” the Brit concluded.
