The Soudal-QuickStep cyclist confirmed that the accident occurred when he crashed into the door of a postal vehicle (Bpost) that the driver opened suddenly. As a result, he suffered fractures in the rib, right scapula, and right hand. In addition to damage to the ligaments from a dislocated collarbone.

The Belgian postal company Bpost issued a statement in which it declared that the driver involved in the accident was deeply affected, and Evenepoel also had a gesture of affection towards her by communicating his current condition.

After a terrifying accident in training yesterday, I underwent surgery last night and everything went well.

With a fracture in my rib, scapula, hand, bruises on my lungs, and a dislocation of my right collarbone, which has caused all the surrounding ligaments to be torn, it will be a long journey, but I am completely focused on my recovery and determined to come back stronger, step by step.

I am very grateful for all the help and support I have received in the last 24 hours. From the emergency services, the neighbors who helped me in the first moment, the medical teams in Anderlecht and Herentals, and our team doctor Phil.

Also a special mention to my wife, my family for being by my side in these difficult times, and to everyone for their messages of support.
