Enric Mas is out for the rest of the season
Everything seems to be going wrong for Enric Mas. After being forced to abandon the 2025 Tour de France due to discomfort in the knee area that prevented him from continuing in the first of the two alpine stages, his injury has ended up resulting in thrombophlebitis, a potentially serious condition for which rest is essential for its solution.
Thrombophlebitis leaves Enric Mas out of action
The abandonment of the Tour de France by Enric Mas was very strange. It is true that things had not gone well for him in terms of his goal of finishing the race in the Top10 of the general classification and, once ruled out for the top positions, the change of focus towards the race, launched in search of stages, seemed to be going better, having been in contention for the stage that ended at Mont Ventoux until a few kilometers from the finish.
However, in the following stage, after the tough start of the stage caused by Primoz Roglic's attack on the ascent to the Glandon, Enric Mas suffered during this first ascent to eventually cut himself off and abandon in the descent.

It was then revealed that the Mallorcan cyclist had been suffering from knee discomfort that had worsened after the second rest day until becoming unbearable. However, the next day, the initial diagnosis that Enric Mas was suffering from phlebitis, an inflammation of the veins in his leg, already pointed towards a more complicated injury although, initially, his recovery was expected for the 2025 Vuelta a España.
But, after various medical tests, the definitive diagnosis has led to thrombophlebitis, a condition that implies that the inflammation of the veins causing the pain that led Enric Mas to abandon is motivated by the presence of a blood clot. A condition that requires absolute rest for its treatment to prevent the clot from moving to vital areas, which could have serious consequences.
Therefore, the Movistar Team cyclist now faces a long recovery until the complete elimination of said clot, which is why this morning, the Movistar team confirmed that Enric Mas's 2025 calendar ends here in order to preserve the health and full recovery of the cyclist.
