Van der Poel surprises with a radical and completely new Canyon Endurace
A couple of days ago, several Alpecin-Premier Tech riders were seen competing in the Ronde van Brugge on a new Canyon bike that does not correspond to any of the current models from the German brand. Now, it is Van der Poel himself who debuts it at the E3 Saxo Classic. Everything points to a profound evolution of the Endurace CFR, a platform traditionally associated with comfort that now radically shifts its focus towards aerodynamics.
Canyon reveals its new weapon for the cobbles and aims for Roubaix
What at first glance may seem like an Aeroad actually appears to be a much more aggressive reinterpretation of Canyon's endurance bike. The brand has developed a specific model in tune with current trends, arriving just in time for the cobbled classics. Moreover, it does so at a time when this type of bike had lost prominence to the rise of aero bikes with larger tire clearance.

The frame maintains a clear aerodynamic inspiration. The front adopts solutions typical of the Aeroad, with a fork of large profiles and a very marked integration. The seat post also follows this sharp line, reinforcing the idea that pure performance has been a priority in its development. However, the design evolves as it moves towards the rear area, where the joints of the rear triangle have been modified to introduce greater absorption capacity.

One of the most striking elements is the down tube, which widens its section in the bottle cage area to improve airflow management. This type of solution had already been seen in aero bikes, but not in a comfort-oriented platform, confirming the conceptual shift of this model.
There are also clear differences compared to the Aeroad in the seat tube. The absence of a cutout for the rear wheel and the use of thinner sections at certain points suggest greater flexibility, which is key on surfaces like cobbles. At the same time, the tire clearance seems expanded, with configurations close to or exceeding 30 mm, aligning with the current trend of wider tires even in competition.

The cockpit is another key point of this new bike. Some riders, including Van der Poel himself, have already been seen with a completely redesigned handlebar that advances the upper areas and features flattened profiles with an aerodynamic focus. This component, still in prototype phase, could offer improvements in both efficiency and ergonomics, especially during intense efforts or sprints.
Although there are no official details about its launch, everything indicates that this is an advanced development in the testing phase.

Within the Alpecin-Premier Tech team, it has already been hinted at what their main objective might be. According to journalist Daniel Benson, sources from the team confirm that this new Endurace CFR will be the bike chosen by Mathieu van der Poel for the Paris-Roubaix, reinforcing the idea that Canyon has designed a specific model to maximize performance in one of the most demanding races on the calendar.
This move also opens a broader perspective on the evolution of materials in professional cycling. The convergence between aerodynamics, comfort, and tire clearance seems to mark the way forward, and this new Endurace could be one of the first clear examples of this new generation of hybrid bikes designed to perform at their best in any scenario.
