Froome, who turned 40 this season, last raced in early August at the Tour de Pologne, where he finished 68th. His contract expires at the end of the year and he had already indicated that this could be his last season as a professional cyclist.
Winner of the Tour de France in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017, as well as the Vuelta a España in 2017 and the Giro d'Italia in 2018, Froome suffered a serious accident in 2019 that marked a turning point in his career. This accident will once again test his ability to come back, but it seems that the decision about his sporting future may have been made for some time.
