Carbon and foam to absorb vibrations and impacts, that's how the new Hope gravel cranks are
The British brand Hope has accustomed us to spectacular creations like the galactic track bikes used by the British Olympic team. Now, they surprise us again with cranks specially designed for gravel, with a design aimed at improving the absorption of vibrations that reach the cyclist.
Lightness, resistance, and comfort come together in the new Hope RX Carbon cranks
Hope is one of those brands that many of us think of when we talk about exquisite bike components. A complete range where we find handlebars, brakes, wheels, hubs, etc., practically any component, except for gears, that we may need for the bike.
The latest addition to Hope's catalog are the RX Carbon cranks, created with gravel in mind and a design that seeks to maximize absorption in a component where rigidity has always been sought to improve force transfer to the transmission. Obviously, it is not about the cranks flexing to mitigate impacts, but about filtering the vibrations that reach the cyclist and end up translating into fatigue over time.

Why short cranks are trending?

To achieve this, Hope has built carbon cranks with a foam core inside, the element responsible for mitigating those vibrations and small impacts. All this without sacrificing a lightweight construction and adequate resistance to pedal without any problem off-road.
The Hope RX Carbon cranks weigh around 532 grams with a 40-tooth chainring and are made with Toray T700 carbon for the arms and a 30mm diameter 7075 aluminum axle. They are available in three sizes: 175, 170, and, following the trend of using shorter cranks, 165 mm.
As is increasingly common, the chainrings are fixed by direct mounting to the right arm, and Hope offers chainrings ranging from 28 to 44 teeth. All this at an exclusive price of €690.
