“Health comes first”, wrote the rider himself in a message on social media. “It's very tough news. Richard was coming off a spectacular Giro and was breaking personal records in training. The timing couldn't be more cruel”, lamented Jonathan Vaughters, director of the EF team. “But we know his character. He will come back stronger, as always”.
