As the current elite men's world champion in XCO and winner of the overall classification of the last XC World Cup, as well as a bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Hatherly leads a powerful XC team that includes Jens Schuermans from Belgium, Dario Lillo from Switzerland, and Carter Woods from Canada.
Schuermans had a great season in 2024 where he managed to get into the top-10 four times in the World Cup, with a podium in the XCC in Val di Sole, Italy. The 31-year-old athlete also represented Belgium at the Paris Olympics, his third participation which he reached after overcoming a hand fracture.
Lillo dominated the men's under-23 category in 2024, achieving three victories and eight podiums to finish fourth in the overall standings. This year, Lillo, who will turn 23 in April, moves up to the elite men's category.
Woods was the Canadian XCO national champion in 2023 and already has victories in the U23 World Cup. Last season he moved up to the elite category but an illness affected much of his season. After recovering, he came back strong in the final part achieving a top-15 in Lake Placid.
The team will compete with the Giant Anthem Advanced 29 full suspension bike on most circuits and all cyclists will also have the rigid XTC Advanced SL 29 model available for fast and less technical circuits.
Hatherly will combine road and mountain biking
As we already knew, Hatherly joins the team as part of an agreement with Giant where he will combine road cycling with the WorldTour team, Team Jayco AlUla. But for the first time, it is confirmed that he will do almost the entire MTB World Cup circuit while gaining road experience with the Australian Team Jayco AlUla.
"I am incredibly excited for this new chapter in my cycling career and very grateful for the opportunity to race for [the owner group of Team Jayco AlUla] GreenEDGE Cycling for the next two seasons," said Hatherly. "Combining road and MTB is something new and refreshing, and I am looking forward to see where this journey can take me."
