Tips for climbing faster on the road
British rider Tom Pidcock once again did not have a good start and the first 2 laps were spent jumping from 20th position to 9th.
It wasn't until lap 3 when British rider Charlie Aldridge, South African Alan Hatherly, Frenchman Victor Koretzky, and Italian Luca Braidot formed a leading group and gained a 10" advantage over Tom Pidcock, who was the first of the chasers.
It was right in the middle of the race, during lap 4 of 6, when the race began to get more tense than ever. Pidcock managed to take the lead for the first time, but Alan Hatherly responded with a strong attack that destabilized the group. The South African and Victor Koretzky tried to break away while Pidcock fought again to keep up.
Hatherly's attack once again defined the race and while he and Koretzky pulled away, the British riders Aldridge and Pidcock chased them until the end of the race.
The Frenchman Victor Koretzky tried with a very tough attack to drop Hatherly, but far from achieving it, the South African responded with an even harder attack that left Koretzky behind.
Alan Hatherly flew in the final part of the circuit to cross the finish line first and secure the first XCO World Championship for South Africa.
Victor Koretzky took the silver after an impeccable race and Tom Pidcock was seen suffering like never before to take the bronze.
