A 6.9 kg Aero bike to win the World Championship, that's the Colnago Y1Rs special version of Pogacar
The 2025 Road World Championship will go down in history for another epic race by Tadej Pogačar, who was able to resist solo for 66 kilometers to don the rainbow jersey in Kigali. A feat that once again put the spotlight on his special Colnago Y1Rs, which he debuted at the last Tour de France and blurs the line between climbers and aero bikes.
Aerodynamics at its best: the bike with which Pogačar conquered the World Championship
For some time now, the debate between climbing and aerodynamic bikes seems to have ended completely in competition. Speed in the race now makes the difference and Aero bikes have won the battle. But on top of that, brands are managing to reduce the weights of current Aero bikes to almost the UCI limit. That's exactly what happens with the Y1Rs that Colnago has specifically prepared for Tadej Pogacar, weighing in at 6.9 kg.
This Y1Rs barely weighs 500 grams more than the climbing model from the brand, the Colnago V5Rs, but it offers an aerodynamic gain equivalent to 20-25 watts when riding at 50 km/h. A decisive factor in a World Championship raced at a dizzying pace from the start and with a route as selective as the one in Rwanda.
For the Slovenian, choosing the Y1Rs is not only based on power data. Maintaining the same geometry and sensations in all races, as well as the greater torsional stiffness of the frame, are key to maximizing his attacking style. The seat tube design, with greater vibration absorption, also allows him to add comfort on long days of extreme effort.

The catalog bike used by Pogačar in Kigali would weigh around 7.2 kg in standard configuration, but Colnago and UAE Team Emirates have shown they can adjust that weight to the UCI regulatory limit, as they did in the Tour, with this special version that reduces the weight to 6.9 kg thanks to a frame with a visible carbon finish, the absence of paint, and ultra-light details.
The Colnago Y1Rs that Pogačar rode in the World Championship stood out once again for exclusive details, such as the support for the Wahoo Bolt cycle computer made in 3D printing, the Elite Leggero Carbon bottle cages, titanium screws, and Carbon-Ti components, including 55/38 chainrings, as well as 165 mm cranks equipped with his "trusted" power meter that he uses on all his bikes. The setup was completed with ENVE 4.5 PRO wheels fitted with 28 mm Continental GP5000 TT tires.
With this machine, designed in Cambiago and perfected with UAE Team Emirates, Pogačar not only won the Tour de France, but has now been crowned World Champion in Kigali. A demonstration that aerodynamic bikes have become the undisputed reference in modern cycling.
