Gravel competitions have reached a level where having bikes specifically designed for this discipline that take advantage of every gram of the cyclist's strength becomes essential to be able to compete for victory. Despite already having an excellent gravel competition bike, Wilier has not hesitated to improve it to meet the requests of their cyclist Ivar Slik to have a more aerodynamic bike with larger wheel clearances.

More aerodynamics and performance in the new Wilier Rave SLR ID2

Just as it happened in road cycling, the extremely high speeds at which gravel competitions are currently held have made aerodynamics an essential factor in achieving maximum performance. An aspect that Wilier, who supports one of the best specialists in the discipline such as Ivar Slik, winner of the Unbound Gravel and The Traka in 2022, had to continue providing his cyclist with the best equipment.

The new Wilier Rave SLR ID2 is, above all, an exercise in improving aerodynamics with which they have managed to save, at 35 km/h, 5.3 W. This means, for the 350 W on average that a cyclist like the Dutchman can generate, a saving of over 50 seconds on a track of more than 70 kilometers, a significant figure.

Wilier has not only tackled the aspect of aerodynamics with this renewed Rave SLR ID2 but has also taken note of one of the latest trends in terms of tires, increasingly wider. Although using high-volume tires may seem like an aspect that hinders aerodynamics, as it does, the gain in lower rolling resistance from using tires with more volume more than compensates for what may be lost against the wind.

At this point, the Wilier Rave SRL ID2 has been designed to accommodate tires up to 52 mm. In order to accommodate such tire size, Wilier has chosen to directly eliminate double chainring mounting options, even removing the front derailleur mount. Of course, its frame features a UDH derailleur hanger that allows for mounting the new 13-speed SRAM groups with full-mount attachment of its derailleur.

Configurations start with a top-of-the-line model equipped with SRAM Red XPLR AXS and accompanied by the Miche Graff Aero 48 wheels presented a few weeks ago and developed in conjunction with this bike to maximize aerodynamics. A bike whose price rises to €9,900. On the more economical side, we find a model equipped with mechanical Shimano GRX that allows us to have this Wilier Rave SLR ID2 for an interesting €4,400.
