Vingegaard suffered a concussion in Paris-Nice and no longer has a clear schedule until the Tour
It seemed that it was only a strong blow to the hand that has caused Jonas Vingegaard not to be in the Volta a Catalunya that started yesterday. However, in statements to a Danish media outlet, the Visma-Lease a Bike cyclist revealed that the fall was more serious than initially thought, which has led him to rethink his schedule.

Visma-Lease a Bike does not want to take risks with Vingegaard in preparation for the Tour
Jonas Vingegaard's fall, which led him to abandon the race due to what seemed like a strong blow to his right hand that initially was speculated to be a fracture, was, however, more serious than that. Once again, as happened last year during the Itzulia, Vingegaard's season is interrupted by the consequences of a fall.
As the cyclist himself explained, he finished the stage with dizziness and nausea, in addition to a huge feeling of fatigue. Symptoms associated with the concussion that the Danish cyclist suffered from the strong impact he endured, leading to the cancellation of his participation in the Volta a Catalunya for which he was not fully recovered.

Now the question arises as to whether Visma-Lease a Bike and Vingegaard will decide to include another race in the calendar since Paris-Nice was his last scheduled competition before focusing on training for the Tour de France, so he had not planned to wear a race number until the Critérium du Dauphiné.
“Now we are taking it day by day letting the recovery itself determine if it is necessary to make changes in the planning” explained Jonas Vingegaard. In similar terms, Frans Maassen, director of Visma-Lease a Bike, expressed “We had a conversation with Jonas last Friday and offered him some options. We didn't want to make a decision right after the accident. We thought it was better for all of us to take some time to think”.

Therefore, Maassen explained, we will not know the decision on Jonas Vingegaard's calendar until at least a couple of weeks from now, as we will also have to find a way to fit in possible competitions that may be added to the calendar with the altitude training camps that the Danish had scheduled on his way to the Grande Boucle. A decision in which the fear factor in Vingegaard's environment of a new fall potentially derailing his path to the Tour, as happened last year with the serious fall in the Itzulia, also needs to be considered, ironically, as one of the options to include in the calendar.
