Today it's Van Aert's turn: schedules, favorites, and where to watch the Superprestige Heusden-Zolder

Cyclocross 23/12/25 11:15 Migue A.

As we told you yesterday, there is no break for cyclocross during these days. Today, once again, there is a race within the tight Christmas calendar that will mark the return of the Superprestige, a competition that has not held any races since November 15 in Merkplas. The Superprestige has already held 4 events, two of which were won by Michael Vanthourenhout, although the current leader of the overall classification is Niels Vandeputte, with just two points ahead of him. However, in the fifth race, the one expected to be the protagonist is Wout van Aert, who has a perfect opportunity to score his first points.

Favorites for Superprestige Heusden-Zolder

The names of these days are repeated; in reality, those who are in the best shape are the ones who end up competing for the races. Among them, after the race yesterday in Hofstade, Wout van Aert gains a lot of ground with a tremendously solid performance, only surpassed by the untouchable Van der Poel but pulling a substantial lead over the third place. Additionally, Heusden-Zolder is one of those circuits where Van Aert can unleash all his power, making him a clear favorite.

We also have to consider, as always this season and especially on a circuit where he won the Belgian Championship last year, Thibau Nys, who yesterday tried to follow Van der Poel's wheel but ended up exploding and making several mistakes. Nevertheless, he scraped the podium, being narrowly surpassed in the fight for third place by another contender to watch, Niels Vandeputte, who will want to solidify his lead in the Superprestige classification, especially considering that his main rival in this championship has dropped a notch in his form.

Obviously, we will also have to keep an eye on cyclists like Tibor del Grosso or Laurens Sweeck, who also arrive at the Christmas marathon in good form. And why not, it is also a circuit that suits Felipe Orts, who returns to the grid at a point in the season where he will need to start showing what he is capable of.

Superprestige Heusden-Zolder Circuit

Located within the homonymous speed circuit, the Heusden-Zolder cyclocross event is one of the classics of the calendar, having alternated its presence between the Superprestige, the World Cup, or the Belgian Championship held here last year.

A 2.7-kilometer course with two distinct parts. The first area is very fast and quite flat, relying purely on strength, while the other is characterized by small ups and downs, entering and exiting the speed circuit and winding sections with constant stops and starts.

How to Watch the Superprestige Heusden-Zolder

Once again, winter sports leave room for cyclocross in the Eurosport lineup, so most of us will be able to enjoy the broadcast of the event through the Eurosport 1 channel, as well as, of course, the HBO Max platform where the well-known sports channel is integrated.
