This Zefal bell is a genius invention for MTB and gravel
Zefal brings to MTB a solution that is as simple as it is effective, both on technical mountain trails and in the city. This bell has a dual mode so that it only sounds when you want it to, or it can sound continuously when you want to be heard before being seen.
New Zefal dual-mode bell with bell function
The French brand has introduced the new Trail Bike Bell, a device specifically designed for use in mountain and gravel that offers a different approach to the classic handlebar bell. Here, the key is not just to emit a single sound, but to provide a constant sound presence when riding in areas with reduced visibility.
The idea is simple but makes sense in the current context. It is increasingly common to share trails with hikers, runners, or even hunters, which requires improving coexistence without compromising the rider's flow. In that scenario, the Trail Bike Bell acts as an “active bell” that alerts others to your presence without the need to continuously operate a lever.

The distinguishing feature of the system is its operation in dual mode. On one hand, it allows you to leave the bell in free mode, generating a continuous sound thanks to the movement of the bike. This is especially useful on descents or fast sections where you don't have the margin to manually operate a conventional bell.

On the other hand, it can be completely locked to avoid any noise in situations where silence is paramount, such as climbs or areas where there are no other users. In that case, the bell functions like a traditional one, activating only when the cyclist operates it with their thumb.
This mixed approach aims to adapt to two opposing needs within current MTB: safety in shared areas and discretion when an acoustic signal is not necessary.
Louder sound and mounting designed for MTB
Zefal has opted for a brass bell, which allows it to produce a cleaner and longer-lasting sound than conventional bells. According to the brand, it is audible from over 80 meters in natural environments, a key distance for anticipating encounters on narrow trails or in vegetation.

Another important point is the fixation. The screw mounting system aims to eliminate one of the common problems in handlebar accessories: rotation or displacement due to vibrations. This is particularly relevant in MTB, where uneven terrain often tests any accessory.
Additionally, it includes adapters for handlebars ranging from 22.2 to 35 mm, ensuring compatibility with both mountain configurations and gravel bikes, even with round-section road handlebars.

A simple accessory that meets a real need
Beyond the technology, the Trail Bike Bell provides a great response to the need we have to coexist on the trails with other athletes. And this solution integrates into the riding experience without forcing the cyclist to change their riding style.
