These are the lightest 50 mm profile aero wheels in the world
The doubts about choosing new wheels, whether to go for an aerodynamic model or a climbing one, are over. The premium component brand Schmolke has just launched its spectacular TLO 50, which directly eliminates those doubts: aerodynamic wheels with a 50 mm profile that are much lighter than any climbing wheel, with a record weight of 940 grams.

Schmolke breaks the kilo barrier with its new TLO 50
There are no words to describe the amazing wheels that Schmolke has just unveiled. Their TLO 50 leave elite models like the Lightweight Obermayer Evo, which cannot drop below 1,280 g, or the spectacular Syncros Capital SL, which once amazed us with their 1,170 g, far behind in terms of weight.
These wheels share a complex construction among their features. However, Schmolke has achieved its spectacular 940 g with wheels of a completely conventional structure and, above all, without making concessions that would, for example, prevent changing a spoke if we are unfortunate enough to break one.

Schmolke starts with a Toray T1100 carbon rim with an extremely careful construction that allows for a significant weight reduction compared to those from other manufacturers. Rims where the German brand does not cut corners and does not compromise on anything: tubeless rims with hooks to ensure full compatibility and safety; 50 mm profile and an internal width of 25 mm.
For the assembly, Schmolke chooses carbon spokes with a conventional thread, an element that is becoming increasingly common in lightweight builds and allows for a weight saving of 1.8 g per spoke compared to DT Swiss Aerolite spokes. This set is completed with spectacular Extralite CyberFront SPC 3+ and CyberRear SPC 3+ hubs weighing 196 grams for the pair.

Adding everything up, we have the spectacular 940 g that Schmolke declares as the official weight for this pair of wheels, without rim tape or valves. One would need to add about 40 or 50 grams to the total considering these elements, which would still keep them below the psychological barrier of one kilo in weight.
Unlike other wheels that have historically lowered this figure, Schmolke is so confident in the performance of these TLO 50 that it sets a bike/rider weight limit of 115 kg, meaning they can be used by the vast majority of cyclists without the need to be a slender climber.
