The UCI suspends Edgar Carballo for one year for sexually harassing another rider
The Ethics Commission of the International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced the one-year suspension of Edgar Carballo González, a Spanish enduro and DH biker, after determining that he committed sexual harassment against another rider during an international event.
One-year suspension for Spanish cyclist Edgar Carballo for sexual harassment
The case began with a complaint filed by the victim through the confidential UCI SpeakUp platform, in which she reported that the incidents occurred in his van, located in the official parking lot of a competition. According to the Commission's findings, Carballo made unwanted sexual advances, which included inappropriate physical contact and the use of the word "violation," even though the rider had made it clear that they would not engage in any sexual interaction due to having a partner.
Although the statement does not mention the victim, it seems clear that this sanction is related to the complaint made public on social media by Spanish enduro cyclist Masip Ares.
The UCI considers that these actions violate article 6.4 of the Code of Ethics (protection of physical and mental integrity) and article 2.3 of appendix 1 (sexual harassment). Therefore, the organization has decided to impose a sanction that will remove him from all cycling-related activities for twelve months.

The decision, which can still be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), reinforces, as emphasized by the UCI, the commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all participants in this sport. The organization also reminds that anyone who witnesses or is a victim of incidents of this nature can report them through their secure and confidential reporting channel, UCI SpeakUp.
