The first 3D-printed saddle from Shimano arrives: this is the new PRO Stealth 3D

The Shimano component brand, PRO, has just introduced the new PRO Stealth 3D, a saddle that combines aerodynamic design, real biomechanical data, and 3D printing technology to offer its most comfortable proposal to date.

The Stealth 3D maintains the philosophy of the well-known Stealth range, designed for an aggressive and efficient position, but adds a new level of comfort thanks to a 3D printed EPU padding with three distinct mesh zones, each with a specific density based on the cyclist's support and posture.

The development of the PRO Stealth 3D has been based on pressure mapping data obtained during bike fitting studies and direct feedback from test cyclists. The result is a clearly differentiated structure:

The front zone, of high density, is designed to provide firm support to the sit bones when the cyclist adopts a very forward and aerodynamic position. In the central zone, with a lower density, the saddle distributes weight over a larger surface when pedaling in a more upright position, reducing the appearance of hot spots and improving comfort during prolonged efforts. Finally, the rear part, of low density, reduces the total weight of the assembly and enhances the aesthetics of the saddle, as it is an area with less actual contact during pedaling.

Beyond the simple variation of densities, the 3D padding of the Stealth 3D uses a hexagonal cell pattern whose structure varies according to the saddle zone. This design not only allows for a very precise adjustment of firmness but also helps absorb vibrations individually and collectively, reducing the so-called road buzz and, with it, the cyclist's fatigue on bumpy or cobbled roads.

The cells are partially visible in the lower density areas, highlighting both the functionality and the technological character of the saddle and reinforcing an aesthetic that conveys speed and precision.

“The PRO Stealth 3D saddle incorporates advanced manufacturing techniques alongside extensive research on cyclist comfort,” explains Anton Peeters, head of the saddle design project at PRO. According to Peeters, 3D printing allows for density adjustments in a way that is impossible with traditional foams, offering greater comfort in both aerodynamic and more relaxed positions, without sacrificing a contained weight.

PRO acknowledges that many cyclists value the ergonomics of conventional Stealth saddles, but that some are willing to accept a few extra grams in exchange for greater comfort, especially in competitions on cobblestones or poorly maintained roads. The Stealth 3D is precisely designed to meet that profile.

Versions, widths, and weights

The PRO Stealth 3D comes to market in two versions:

• Team, with carbon rails
• Performance, with INOX stainless steel rails.

In both cases, two widths are offered, 142 and 152 mm, to adapt to different anatomies.

The declared weight starts at 224 grams for the Team version and reaches 260 grams in the Performance version, competitive figures considering the level of padding and technology used. The base is reinforced with carbon, features a triple bridge design with anatomical cut, and is compatible with all PRO saddle accessories. The upper surface also has a dimpled finish that helps secure the cyclist even during maximum seated efforts.
