Tadej Pogacar adds his 100th victory in the fourth stage of the Tour de France 2025
Tremendous teamwork from UAE Team Emirates-XRG to set up the first stage victory of this edition and the 100th of their palmares for an ambitious Tadej Pogacar, who will start as the last of the favorites for the general classification in the time trial that will take place tomorrow in Caen.
A classic route serves Tadej Pogacar to achieve his first victory in the Tour de France 2025
After the tension experienced by the cyclists yesterday, the Tour de France peloton faced a route between Amiens and Rouen of 174 kilometers with a classic finish similar to the one we saw two days ago, this time with 5 climbs in the last 45 kilometers that gave us another test of strength among the favorites for the general classification.
The fourth stage unfolded in its first two thirds in a peaceful manner despite the winding terrain leading to Normandy and was marked by a breakaway composed of Kasper Asgreen, Lenny Martinez, Thomas Gachignard, and Jonas Abrahamsen.

Approaching the first of the climbs, named after the five-time Tour de France champion Jacques Anquetil, the pace began to pick up while, as usual, in the breakaway there were skirmishes in a vain attempt to extend the adventure. A section where the peloton was riding at full speed and where a man who could have performed well in this terrain like Julian Alaphilippe suffered a puncture at the most inopportune moment, leaving him out of contention.
However, despite the high pace set by UAE Team Emirates-XRG, which was being matched by Visma-Lease a Bike, it wasn't until the last of the climbs, Saint Hilaire, 800 meters at 10.6% average gradient, when the final offensive was unleashed with a UAE team in which a determined Joao Almeida showcased the form he has been demonstrating throughout the season for Tadej Pogacar to launch a fierce attack that only Jonas Vingegaard could respond to.
Pogacar maintained the acceleration to the limit, stretching the rubber more and more until Vingegaard faltered in a way that seemed to be definitive. However, stretching the sprint so much also left Pogacar empty, forcing him to ease off when he had already overcome his rival, allowing him to almost catch up at the top of the climb. With intense looks and behind, a unleashed Remco Evenepoel managed to link up with a small group behind him, including Joao Almeida, Van der Poel, and Matteo Jorgenson.
The last kilometer was once again a tough incline where Almeida, in invaluable work, managed to neutralize an attempt to surprise by Matteo Jorgenson and set a launching pace that even dropped Remco Evenepoel. However, Mathieu van der Poel launched the sprint, just under 300 meters from the finish line, and unlike two days ago, this time Tadej Pogacar, with incredible explosiveness, latched onto his wheel and managed to overtake the Dutchman by a bit more than a bike length, with Jonas Vingegaard in the most ambitious version we have ever seen of him, also making it to the finish line and narrowly missing out on second place.

Mathieu van der Poel maintains the yellow jersey, tied on time with Pogacar, due to his placements in the previous stages, but for the Slovenian, the goal, beyond another stage victory, was achieved: to start last among the favorites for the general classification in the 33-kilometer time trial that will take place in the city of Caen, where he will have the advantage of having all the references of his rivals.
