Schwalbe reorganizes its entire MTB range and launches the new Romy to simplify tire selection

Schwalbe takes an important step in the reorganization of its mountain bike tire catalog and has just introduced the new Romy, a tire that becomes the cornerstone of that strategy. The German brand simplifies its offering with a direct focus on the actual use of each tire and eliminates some of the complexity that has accumulated in recent years.

Schwalbe reorganizes its MTB range and launches the new Romy tire as a key piece of its strategy

Schwalbe has explained that this is not just a simple name change, but a new logic that redefines how an MTB tire is chosen. Alongside this move, the brand presents the new Romy, a versatile model that fits directly into this new structure.

The goal is to reduce complexity, eliminate duplications, and make tire selection much more intuitive without losing technical level.

Three families that define the actual use of the tire

The most important change is the new organization into three clearly differentiated families.

Gravity becomes the reference for the most aggressive use, where the priority is total control, stability, and safety in extreme conditions. Trail positions itself as the most versatile option, designed for those seeking a balance between protection, weight, and performance. Race focuses on efficiency and speed, with the least possible weight and a clearly competitive orientation.

This classification is not just commercial. Each family is directly linked to a type of construction, which allows for a quick understanding of what to expect from each tire.

Fewer casings and a much clearer structure

One of the major changes is the simplification of the casings. Schwalbe goes from five variants to just three, directly aligned with the Gravity, Trail, and Race families.

From there, the range is divided into two well-defined levels:

  • Standard versions, with a focus on quality-price ratio
  • Pro versions, with the names Gravity Pro, Trail Pro, and Race Pro, representing the highest technological level of the brand

The Pro versions use more advanced materials and solutions developed in competition, including more robust constructions, greater puncture protection, and superior control in demanding situations.

New compound nomenclature, goodbye to Addix

Another key point of this reorganization is the simplification of the compounds. Schwalbe eliminates the Addix designation in MTB to make the range easier to understand.

The compound previously known as Speedgrip is now called Mid, better reflecting its balanced character. Soft remains as an intermediate option with greater grip, while Ultra Soft is completely redesigned.

This new Ultra Soft significantly improves absorption and grip in challenging conditions, especially on wet terrain, while maintaining high durability despite the increase in performance.

Romy, the new versatile tire in the range

Within this new structure, Schwalbe introduces the Romy, a tire designed to cover a wide range of uses within the trail and all-mountain segment.

Its tread design seeks that balance between control and efficiency. The side knobs are more pronounced to improve cornering support, while the central area is more compact and less deep, favoring rolling and durability.

The Romy can be mounted both front and rear, reinforcing its versatile character. Additionally, it positions itself as a lighter option than many enduro tires, while maintaining a high level of resistance.

One of the most interesting innovations of the Romy is that it is offered in two types of construction:

  • The radial version introduces a more flexible casing that increases the contact surface with the ground, improving grip, absorption, and the feeling of control. It is designed for demanding terrains and for those who prioritize traction.
  • The diagonal version maintains a more classic construction, with lower rolling resistance and greater puncture protection, being a more efficient option for less extreme uses.

This dual approach allows the same tire to adapt to very different riding styles without changing models.

Versions and prices of the Schwalbe Romy

The Romy integrates into the entire logic of the new range and is offered in several versions according to use:

  • Trail, as the most accessible option, priced at €44.90
  • Trail Pro, Gravity Pro, and Race Pro, as high-performance versions, with prices ranging from €69.90 to €74.90

The Pro versions incorporate advanced technologies and reinforcements such as the Apex, which improves stability and puncture resistance without penalizing weight.

There are also changes in sustainability

Schwalbe also introduces sustainability improvements within this new range. The Romy uses recycled carbon black from its own recycling system, significantly reducing emissions compared to traditional materials.

Additionally, the Pro versions use fair trade natural rubber, with a direct compensation system for producers.

The reorganization of Schwalbe is not just a simple catalog redesign. It is a fundamental change in the way it presents and develops its mountain tires.

With only three families, fewer casings, and a clearer nomenclature in compounds, the brand seeks to eliminate barriers when choosing. The Romy is the first example of this new phase, but all signs point to it being just the beginning of a much more coherent range in the coming years.
