Oakley partners with Meta (WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook) to develop smart glasses
Meta is working to update its smart glasses as well as other wearables such as watches or camera headphones, in addition to enhancing the use of artificial intelligence in a greater number of products. A task for which it has partnered with Oakley to develop smart glasses for athletes.
Oakley's smart glasses will be revived thanks to Meta
In recent times, Meta, the parent company that includes the popular social networks Instagram, Facebook, and the messaging service WhatsApp, has shifted its efforts to position itself as an innovative company in the world of Artificial Intelligence by investing a large sum in next-generation hardware and improving virtual and augmented reality devices, including their wearables.
Among these wearables that Meta currently has are their Ray-Ban glasses that integrate a camera, microphone, and other technologies in an augmented reality device capable of overlaying data and images on the field of vision, allowing for taking photos as well as other functions like listening to music or making calls.

A line, called Supernova by Meta that the brand intends to expand, both by expanding the implementation of the current Ray-Ban glasses model and by expanding the range of smart glasses to other brands within the Luxotica group, including Oakley. Meta is considering introducing Supernova 2 glasses based on the Oakley Sphaera model, very neutral design glasses suitable for runners, cyclists, and athletes from other disciplines.
As expected, we will not be facing a cheap device and rumors already suggest that it will have a price around $1,000.
Let's remember that this is not the first time Oakley has been involved in a smart glasses project and that a few years ago the brand launched its Oakley Radar Pace to the market, glasses mainly aimed at runners and cyclists, acting as a kind of cycling computer and also having headphones that allowed us to listen to music during our workouts.
However, between its high price, the dependence on the mobile phone for its operation, and the lack of many functions considered essential in any device of these characteristics, the Oakley Radar Pace passed through the market as little more than a curiosity.
Will Oakley, with the support of Meta, be able to achieve truly successful smart glasses now? We will see.
