New S-Works Torch Remco: the lightest cycling shoes in the World Tour

Specialized and Remco Evenepoel have joined forces to create the new S-Works Torch Remco, a pair of shoes that redefine performance with only 148.2 grams (size 41). The brand presents them as the lightest in the World Tour peloton, born from eight months of collaboration between the Specialized footwear team and the Belgian champion.

Evenepoel, double world champion and double Olympic gold medalist, presented a clear challenge to the Specialized team: to develop an ultralight shoe for the toughest stages of the 2024 Tour de France. The response was a shoe built with the philosophy of "everything necessary, nothing superfluous". During the French grand tour, Remco tested three prototypes and chose the final one to face five high mountain stages, achieving a final podium and the white jersey.

To achieve this record lightness of 148.2 grams (size 41), the S-Works Torch Remco incorporate unique materials and technologies:

• Minimalist upper: a single layer of mesh and TPU that eliminates 39.81 g compared to the standard Torch.
• Unique BOA® Li2 closure system with wide strap in the midfoot, reducing another 11.29 g.
• Smaller carbon plate combined with injected nylon elements in the toe and heel, saving an additional 14 g.
• Asymmetrical and low-profile heel counter, offering support without unnecessary weight.

The result is a total reduction of 65.1 g compared to the original Torch and a power transfer efficiency designed for the most demanding efforts.

The Torch Remco also represents a leap forward in cycling ergonomics, thanks to the new Body Geometry Last, developed with over 100,000 3D scans from RETÜL and 2,000 hours of road testing. This anatomical last:

• Reduces pressure on the forefoot by 44%.
• Provides more space for natural toe expansion.
• Improves foot, knee, and hip alignment.
• Eliminates discomfort such as numbness, plantar pain, or "hot foot".
• All this is combined with classic Body Geometry elements: 1.5 mm Varus wedge, longitudinal arch support, and metatarsal button.

"I trusted the Specialized team and knew that this was the right footwear for my debut in the Tour. Being able to attack without weight penalty was a great advantage in the mountains. And the best part is that all the feedback I gave during development was incorporated into the final version." Evenepoel explained about the new S-Works Torch.
