Limiting carbohydrates to decrease speed: Tom Pidcock's ironic proposal
Before the start of the Artic Race, a race in which Tom Pidcock returns to road bike competition, the British cyclist was asked about different aspects. One of them was the measures that the UCI will try to improve race safety.
Pidcock doesn't hold back when asked about the measures adopted by the UCI to improve safety
In recent months, there has been much talk about the measures that the UCI has launched to try to improve safety in races, some already approved such as the limitation of aerodynamic profile in wheels or setting a minimum handlebar width; others, such as the limitation of maximum development, will be tested in a race before a decision is made on their implementation.
However, Tom Pidcock, who is currently competing in the Artic Race of Norway, has clear ideas about these measures as he declared to the sports newspaper Marca: "Limiting developments will only make everything more dangerous. If we all go at the same maximum speed, we will be more grouped together, and on descents, that means we will take up more space on the road," stated the Q36.5 cyclist categorically.

Similarly, he commented on the minimum handlebar width "it's nothing but a smokescreen. We should be talking about important issues," in clear reference to what many have criticized regarding these measures, which seem to focus exclusively on equipment without taking into account the constant dangers seen in current routes without anyone pointing out the organizers or trying to establish a standard for route protection.
Pidcock even allowed himself to use some irony by suggesting an idea to make races slower "I was telling my brother that maybe they should limit carbohydrates for everyone and make us all go into ketosis, only then races will be slower."
Beyond the safety debate, Tom Pidcock faces the preparation for the Vuelta a España with quite optimism "I feel fresh, in the Vuelta I can progress a lot. If I manage to improve a little and regain the sensations I had at the beginning of the season, it would be excellent."
