The arrival of the MTB World Cup in South Korea in 2026 is starting to shine a light on a cycling scene that has so far gone almost unnoticed by the rest of the world. A recent documentary video explores different corners of the country to show how mountain biking is experienced there and what community is behind the event that the international circuit will hold in Yongpyong.

A Journey Through Korean MTB Anticipating the Arrival of the 2026 World Cup

The project stems from the journey of a rider with Korean roots who decides to travel the country to discover a cycling culture he barely knew. His initial goal was to document the local scene, but he soon finds a very active and welcoming community that opens its doors to him from the very first moment, guiding him through trails, events, and competitions.

The journey begins in different areas where MTB has been progressively developing in recent years. One of the first meeting points is Tarzan MTB Park, where an open day is organized to ride with local riders. What was supposed to be a small technical session ends up gathering numerous cyclists who showcase the level and passion that exists within the Korean community.

During the trip, other local events also appear that reflect how this scene is articulated. In Baekbong, for example, a festival is held with a competitive and recreational atmosphere where riders from different areas of the country come together to share trails and races in an environment that blends sport and community.

A Country with Ideal Terrain for Mountain Biking

One of the aspects that most surprises those discovering Korean MTB is its geography. Approximately 70% of the country's territory is mountainous, which offers ideal conditions for the development of trails and bike parks.

Throughout the journey, places like Gochang, one of the first bike parks built in South Korea, and Chilgok, the venue for one of the races that closes the local season, are also visited. At these events, the growth of competitive level and the increasingly important role of young riders can be seen.

The journey concludes in Yongpyong, the venue for the MTB World Cup event scheduled for 2026. For the local community, the arrival of the international circuit represents a historic opportunity to give visibility to a scene that has grown over the years thanks to the work of a small but very committed group of riders and organizers.

The promoters of the event believe that this occasion could mark a turning point for mountain biking in South Korea. It will not only allow the best riders in the world to compete in the country, but it will also serve to showcase an existing community that has been developing its own culture of trails, races, and events for some time.

After traveling through different regions, participating in riding days, and attending local races, the message conveyed by the video is that Korean MTB is still relatively small compared to other powerhouses in the sport, but it has a very passionate base.

With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, South Korea is preparing to show the rest of the world a scene that has so far grown in silence and could find in that event the definitive boost.
