"I was sick all week": Pogacar regains his confidence for the World Championships in Montreal
Tadej Pogacar surprised after the Canadian classics by opening up about the doubts that plagued him upon his return to competition. Something that no one could have imagined after seeing the weekend that Tadej Pogacar had in GP Quebec and GP Montreal, where the Slovenian cyclist once again showed his ambition, despite not winning either of them.
Tadej Pogacar's Canadian races allows him to clear his doubts before the World Championships
We all know the typical cyclist who arrives on Sunday at the start with the group, complaining of all the world's ailments: "I couldn't ride at all this week, my knee hurts, I have a cold..." and then, as soon as the first climb arrives, leaves everyone behind without a second thought.
Tadej Pogacar was no different, and after the Canadian classics, he surprised everyone with statements explaining that he had been sick the previous week "I couldn't train as planned, so I was a bit worried. In Quebec, my legs weren't at their best, but I raced well and found my rhythm. In Quebec, I regained motivation and confidence, and today (referring to Montreal) was a really good day. I'm glad I went to Canada" explained the Slovenian to the Dutch media outlet WielerFlits.

"I haven't been feeling well for a while": Van der Poel admits his slump at the World Championships
Tadej Pogacar had a magnificent weekend. While in Quebec, on a less selective route, he launched a strong attack in the penultimate lap to try to neutralize the breakaway formed 60 km from the finish, which ultimately led to a victory for Julian Alaphilippe.
Everything was completely different in Montreal, where he personally destroyed the race with two powerful attacks. When he was on his way to an inevitable victory, his teammate Brandon McNulty, who was chasing alongside Quinn Simmons, managed to drop the Lidl-Trek cyclist after letting him suffer in the pursuit. Upon realizing that McNulty was alone behind him, Tadej Pogacar decided to wait and, without receiving any help, took the duo to the finish line to give the victory to his teammate "I told him he deserved to win. We barely exchanged words, just congratulated each other on such a wonderful day" Tadej Pogacar recalled the last lap of the Montreal circuit.
With his tasks completed, Tadej Pogacar is now focused on the individual time trial that will kick off the 2025 World Championships in Rwanda, which will take place next Sunday, September 21.
