"I have something broken, for sure" Aleix Espargaró says goodbye to the Tour of Austria after a crash
Aleix Espargaró's debut as a professional cyclist has ended earlier than expected after an untimely fall left him out of the race. The Catalan rider made his debut this week in the Tour of Austria with the Lidl-Trek team, but he has been forced to abandon the race after suffering a minor fall that has caused a possible fracture in his hand.
An unfortunate fall takes Aleix Espargaró out of the race
The incident took place during the second stage of the Austrian tour, although the abandonment was confirmed at the start of the third day, when Espargaró tried to continue, but soon realized he couldn't. "I tried to go out, but I couldn't brake and I had to stop," explained the cyclist himself through the team's social media. "Obviously I have something broken, the finger is twice as big," he added resignedly, hinting that his participation in future events is, for now, ruled out.
Espargaró's debut had generated great expectations and in his performance in the Tour of Austria with Lidl-Trek he completed the first two stages, finishing 85th in the opening stage and improving to the 70th position in the second, before the misfortune ended his adventure.
