Fulcrum bets on high-speed gravel with the new Sharq GR and Soniq GR

Fulcrum expands its catalog with a new family of wheels developed for modern competitive gravel. The new Sharq GR and Soniq GR are born as a specific evolution within its range, adapted to a scenario where speeds are increasingly high and the courses more technical, with a growing prominence of large volume tires.

Sharq GR and Soniq GR: aerodynamics and control for the most demanding gravel

Although these Fulcrum wheels take their name from two road models, the brand clarifies that this is not a simple adaptation of existing models, both wheels have been developed from scratch based on real race data and direct experience in high-level gravel competitions.

The key element of the development is a new 2-Wave design rim, which combines a 30 mm internal width with a variable profile of 47 to 52 mm. This structure aims to optimize aerodynamic behavior and stability at high speeds, especially on uneven terrain.

Fulcrum has focused the design on the interaction between wheel and tire, clearly betting on tires of 47 to 50 mm as the current standard in competitive gravel. This approach allows for improved contact surface, stability, and overall system efficiency.

Moreover, the larger air volume opens new possibilities in pressure management, allowing for more precise adjustments to balance speed, control, and comfort according to the terrain, always within the maximum limit of 3.5 bar indicated by the brand.

Aerodynamics and control: beyond rim width

The increase in internal width not only aims to improve grip. It also has a direct impact on the aerodynamics of the wheel-tire combination. Compared to narrower rims that deform the tire (the “bulb” effect), this new platform maintains a more efficient shape, reducing rolling resistance and improving lateral stability.

The wavy profile of the rim also helps reduce yaw moment and improve airflow, which is especially relevant on fast sections where modern gravel approaches speeds typical of road cycling.

Sharq GR vs Soniq GR: two approaches within the same concept

Although they share design and philosophy, Fulcrum presents two clearly differentiated options:

The Fulcrum Sharq GR with the model more oriented towards pure competition. It uses FF100 carbon fiber, flat spokes A3RO with a 2:1 lacing pattern, and hubs with a Cup & Cone system, seeking maximum reactivity and precision. Its declared weight is 1,550 g and it is priced at 1,990 €

The Fulcrum Soniq GR arrives as a more balanced option, with FF80 fiber and components less focused on extreme performance but maintaining a high overall level. Its weight is 1,695 g and it comes with a price of 1,490 €.

Both models incorporate 2-Way Fit™ construction with a non-drilled channel, allowing tubeless mounting without tape and improving long-term structural reliability.

Both models are already available on the market with XDR, N3W, HG, and MS12 hubs.
