The Wilier aerolight machine is renewed to continue improving its qualities and provide Groupama-FDJ with the best possible competition bike. A bike where achieving speed based on optimal aerodynamics is the key around which its entire design revolves.

The Wilier Filante SLR has been the flagship of the Italian brand in recent years, initially equipping the Astana team and, in the last two years, the Groupama-FDJ. A bike that follows the current trend of all-around competition bikes following the premises of the aerolight concept, where significant aerodynamic gains go hand in hand with the necessary lightness that a competition bike must have to achieve maximum performance when the road steepens.

In addition to all the intense computer simulation work using Fluid Dynamics programs, Wilier has validated the designs obtained through the Silverstone wind tunnel before deciding on the best design for its new Filante SLR ID2. A bike that improves on the previous generation by 13.6%, even more than predicted by CFD simulations, and, according to Wilier data, outperforms the top five bikes in the World Tour with an improvement in aerodynamic resistance of over 2.42%.

These differences, at the speeds currently pedaled in stages, represent a significant difference in watts that ultimately translates into the cyclist having more power to spend at the decisive moment of the race.

To achieve such generous improvements, Wilier has introduced the cyclist into the equation so that they are part of an aerodynamic set through the best integration between bike and cyclist. Also important in evolving the aerodynamics of this Wilier Filante SLR ID2 is the collaboration with the wheel company Miche, which provides its Kleos RD 50 wheels, as the name suggests, with a 50mm profile and 21mm throat width.

Within the design of the Wilier Filante SLR ID2, the transitions between different elements of the frame are of particular importance, as can be clearly seen in the bottle cages, designed to use aerodynamic bottles while accepting conventional models and integrating perfectly, as we have already seen in bikes like the BMC Teammachine SLR or Trek Madone, with the tubes on which they are mounted.

Needless to say, the Filante SLR ID2 includes an integrated Wilier F Bar ID2 handlebar, also key to achieving optimal aerodynamics as one of the elements that first faces the wind when pedaling at full speed.

Wilier does not forget the dynamic qualities with a frame made of a mix of carbon fibers T800, T1100, and M46JB, which seek optimal stiffness and force transfer, as well as maintaining a slightly over 7 kg weight in its assembly with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, similar to what Groupama-FDJ uses.

A bike that, as is usual in the Wilier range, will be available in a wide variety of setups, practically tailored, starting with configurations based on SRAM Force AXS or Shimano Ultegra for €9,700 and extending to be one of the few brands still offering setups with Campagnolo Super Record 13 that go up to €13,100.
