The recently proclaimed World Time Trial Champions made their mark on the TT to achieve the double also in the time trial that marked the start of the 2025 European Cycling Championship. In both cases, overwhelming dominance achieving the title comfortably.

Not even Ganna or Tarlin manage to get close to Remco Evenepoel in the 2025 European Championship time trial

On a route of only 24 kilometers with a flat profile except for a final climb that added a bit of difficulty to an effort of just 30 minutes, Remco Evenepoel left no option for his rivals and also won the European title with tremendous force despite having rivals of great stature. Among these rivals was not Joao Almeida who was initially on the start list for this time trial of the 2025 European Cycling Championship but ultimately did not show up at the start, although the reason for his absence has not yet been disclosed.

Despite not being one of the favorites in the pre-race predictions, Danish Niklas Larsen set the first great time at the finish line, breaking the psychological barrier of 30 minutes with a time that would ultimately become a well-deserved bronze.

Before that, there was a lot of equality in the first split that promised an exciting time trial, at least until Remco Evenepoel arrived at that point and immediately put 14 seconds on Filippo Ganna. From there, the differences only grew, maintaining positions that predicted a podium formed by Evenepoel, Ganna, and Tarling in that order.

However, the final climb proved difficult for the British rider, and he crossed the finish line a couple of seconds behind Larsen, in fact, he did not even achieve fourth place as Ethan Hayter slipped in between.

There were no changes between the top two, with Filippo Ganna taking the silver medal with a comfortable margin over the Danish rider and enjoying the lead for a few minutes until the missile Remco Evenepoel appeared at the finish line, repeating the scene from Kigali by overtaking a specialist like Stefan Küng, who had started a minute before the Belgian. Remco Evenepoel managed to beat the Italian by a whopping 43 seconds at the finish line.

Marlen Reusser, unrivaled, achieves the World and European double

Just a week ago, she clearly won the World Time Trial Championship in Kigali, and today, Marlene Reusser repeated her performance at the European Championship by winning the time trial that opened this continental event with absolute clarity. A time trial with the same 24 kilometers as the men's category.

With only 31 participating cyclists, Anna Henderson was the first to set reference times for the others. However, the surprise came from Norwegian Mie Bjorndal Ottestad, who managed to set a time as unexpected as it was forceful, leaving her clearly at the top of the standings. As more cyclists arrived, none could even come close to her time, so the surprise could be there.

Only her compatriot Katrine Aalerud and the Dutch rider Mischa Bredewold managed to approach Ottestad's times at the different intermediate points, but at the finish line, neither of them could beat her by just a couple of seconds. In turn, Mischa managed to beat Aalerud by the slim margin of 4 hundredths of a second.

In any case, the hope that the three of them would make up the podium quickly disappeared with the departure of the recently crowned World Champion, Marlen Reusser, who, although she did not achieve the best time at the first timing point, gradually surpassed the records with clarity until she prevailed at the finish line by a convincing 49 seconds, leaving the Norwegians without a double on the podium.

Mireia Benito, the only Spanish representative, could not perform as solidly as in the World Championship and could not repeat the feat of Kigali where she finished in the Top 10, ultimately concluding in 13th place, 2 minutes and 27 seconds behind the winner.
