Despite the hard blow, the Andalusian managed to finish the stage riding his bike, but medical examinations carried out at the hospital revealed the seriousness of his injuries. “Carlos Rodríguez will not start in stage 18 today after his fall in the final moments of yesterday's stage”, communicated Ineos through their social networks. “The tests at the hospital have confirmed a pelvic fracture”.

Stage 17 was marked by falls in its finale. The intense rain complicated the final stretch and caused several accidents, including a very spectacular one involving Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), who fell violently less than a kilometer from the finish line, when the teams were launching the final sprint. Fortunately, the Eritrean was able to cross the finish line and, after receiving medical attention, his team confirmed that he does not have fractures or serious injuries, although his condition will continue to be evaluated in the coming days.

Rodríguez's withdrawal is a hard blow for Ineos Grenadiers, as he was their highest ranked rider in the general classification. The Dutchman Thymen Arensman, winner of stage 14 in Superbagnères, currently occupies the 14th position, but is far from the top 10.
