"Always sitting down and you don't know when he's going to start": Pidcock hits the mark in his attack and wins the Milan-Turin

Tom Pidcock has signed an authoritative victory in the Milan-Turin 2026 after being the strongest in the final ascent to Superga, the decisive point of a race that was once again resolved in its double final climb. The British rider from Pinarello Q36.5 confirmed his status as the favorite with a sharp attack in the last meters that left the other contenders without a response.

Pidcock imposes his law in Superga and conquers the Milan-Turin 2026

The oldest classic on the calendar started from Rho with 174 kilometers practically flat in its first half, which allowed the race to develop under control before everything was decided on the final circuit over Superga. A breakaway of six riders had a certain advantage, but always under the watchful eye of the teams of the favorites, especially Pinarello Q36.5 and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe.

The outcome came, as expected, in the final climb of 4.9 km at 9.1%. There, a small group formed with some of the strongest names in the peloton: Primo? Rogli?, Tobias Halland Johannessen, Giulio Pellizzari, and Cian Uijtdebroeks, among others.

It was precisely the Belgian from Movistar Team who shook up the race with a move with about 1.5 kilometers to go, selecting the group until only the five strongest riders were left. However, that effort would end up costing him in the final meters.

With the race fully launched, Pidcock waited for his moment and launched a decisive attack about 400 meters from the finish. His acceleration was enough to open a gap and cross the finish line solo, with neither Johannessen nor Rogli? able to respond.

After crossing the finish line, Tom Pidcock acknowledged the toughness of the day and the difficulty of reading his rivals: “It has been a strange day, almost like the first race of the season. I felt the changes in pace in my legs all day, but luckily in the end, I had what it took to win. Rogli? is hard to read, he always sits down and you don't know when he will attack. I hesitated to attack, but in the end, I did it at the right moment. Winning is always hard, no victory is easy, so it's nice to achieve this.”

Uijtdebroeks' role was key in building the finish. His offensive toughened the climb and eliminated several rivals, but he ended up paying for the effort and lost contact with the best in the last 700 meters, finishing in fifth place.

Up front, Johannessen managed to secure second place just four seconds behind, while Rogli? completed the podium very close, confirming the equality among the favorites in these types of explosive finishes.
